While growing up in Holmdel, New Jersey I discovered a love for photography. My first camera was a manual Argus that I now have displayed in my studio! In high school I was always the one with a camera in school, at functions and at parties. At the time I didn’t realize it, but looking back I see that I was always drawn toward taking pictures of people.
Although I was a math major in college, I continued to pursue photography as a hobby. Once married and faced with the challenge of supplementing our income in order to stay home and raise a family, I decided to start my own business. I knew I wanted to work with children and families, specifically catering to the stay at home mom. I knew I would have a connection with moms, being one myself, but more importantly the feedback from them indicated they needed a portrait experience above a local mall portrait center yet not as pricey as the independent portrait studios!
I wanted to fill in that gap and provide professional quality portraits with personal service at reasonable and affordable prices.
Although I was self-taught up to that point, I enrolled myself in some courses, attended workshops, seminars and went to camera club meetings. In that time, I started building a client base and found that I absolutely love working with young children. I love to capture their innocence, their unique expressions, all while emphasizing their personality in portraits!
I enjoy shooting on location, whether it is the beach, a park, your home or other local site. My favorite setting is the beach – it’s the best backdrop in the business! It truly is the most pleasing background for portraits. You can find me at one of the many local Jersey Shore beaches on any given evening throughout the summer and early fall.
Studio portraits are a year round option but the Holidays are the most fun. Little girls in pretty dresses, young boys dressed in their holiday best, fun props and such a magical and exciting time of year for the children! And it’s great to be able to showcase my different holiday cards which are sent to hundreds of family and friends across the country each year.
I like to stay active in my field as well as help in the community. For schools, I help raise money for the PTA by holding family portrait events as well as donating to many of their annual gift auctions. I sponsor other events that raise money for local charities and volunteer in non profit mother’s groups. You can find me taking photos for groups and organizations for Halloween portraits and Santa pictures. I even help out the canines by working with dog rescue organizations and providing pet portraits at their fundraising events.
After entering the world of digital photography, I was approached to teach a class for “Creating Digital Memories”. I enjoyed learning this new medium and am excited that I have the opportunity to share my knowledge of the digital process combined with my photography skills.
Being a portrait photographer is extremely rewarding and fun. It’s wonderful to be able to do what you love and have others love what you do! While we all lead busy lives, I feel it is vital that we take the time to preserve memories and celebrate the love of family. Together, we can do that by capturing a moment in time in a lifetime of moments. The images become frames of reference both literally and figuratively! A child’s smile, a hug from a loved one, documentation of a special event, laughing together, your extended family…from babies to grandparents… all together for the first time in years! Create it, live it, share it, enjoy it. It is my passion to help you do so.
